A large contingent of former RYE students greeted Eszter at the airport, along with members of the Rotary Club of the North Fork Valley and Eszter's host mother. Vivacious and outgoing, Eszter has a number of interests including cooking, fashion, acting, drawing, and singing. Her English is excellent.
The young people you see in the above photo are mostly RYE students who have just returned from their study abroad. They just HAPPENED to be gathered in Grand Junction for a Rotary sponsored event. What a reception for two inbound students!!
Eszter was scheduled to arrive at Montrose Airport the previous evening, but the flight she and a Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) student from Slovakia - headed for the Black Canyon RC in Montrose - were on was cancelled. Several Rotary members made a number of attempts to see that Eszter and her traveling companion were appropriately taken care of and booked on another flight. A former RYE student in Denver provided beds and a shower. The Montrose host family got them on the flight to Grand Junction.
Rotary Youth Exchange is one of the most important activities in Rotary, in respect to improving understanding among the countries of the world. RYE students serve as ambassadors of their country.
We in the Rotary Club of the North Fork Valley are looking forward to this year with Eszter to be both exciting and rewarding. Welcome to the North Fork, Eszter!
